Emerald Hill Pre-Wedding Photoshoot Singapore
Emerald Hill is a charming option for couples looking for a more relaxed take on Singapore's Peranakan architecture. It has a similar feel to Katong's colourful Peranakan houses, but the area is generally quieter and less touristy, making it easier to take your time with the photographs. The mix of colourful houses, greenery and bougainvillea gives the area plenty of character.
Why Choose Emerald Hill for Your Pre-Wedding Photoshoot?
The houses along Emerald Hill have their own distinct look, with colourful facades, old shophouse details and pockets of landscaping along the streets. Some of the buildings have a slightly Hong Kong-like feel, which can add an interesting urban touch to the photographs.
It may not have quite as many brightly coloured houses as Katong, but that is also part of its charm. The surroundings feel a little more understated, while still giving us enough colour and architectural detail to work with. Bougainvillea flowers and greenery around the area can also soften the photographs and add a nice contrast against the buildings.
Another advantage is its location right beside the National Design Centre. This gives us an easy way to introduce a more modern look into the same shoot, using the clean cement-screed surfaces and contemporary architecture as a change of backdrop.

Photo Opportunities & Our Experience at Emerald Hill
We can spend some time walking along the residential stretch, using the houses, colourful walls and landscaping as the backdrop. The narrower streets also make it easy to photograph the couple as they walk, talk and move through the area, rather than having to stay in one fixed spot.
The bougainvillea is particularly nice when it is flowering, adding pops of colour around the traditional architecture. For a slightly different look, the houses with stronger Hong Kong-style features can give the photographs a more urban feel.
When we are done with the Peranakan-style surroundings, the National Design Centre nearby gives us a very different visual direction. The plain cement-screed walls and modern surfaces work well for cleaner, more minimal photographs. Having both styles so close together makes Emerald Hill useful for couples who want some variety without travelling between different parts of Singapore.
Other Urban Pre-Wedding Photoshoot Locations in Singapore
For a similar Peranakan and heritage feel, Katong Peranakan Houses offer more colourful and recognisable architectural backdrops. Couples who enjoy the older, lived-in character of Emerald Hill may also like Tiong Bahru Estate, Bras Basah Complex and Haji Lane, while National Gallery Singapore and Capitol Theatre offer a more grand and formal architectural look.
