From School Days to the Altar
A Love Story That Came Full Circle at All Saints Church
Joei and Bryan’s wedding at All Saints Church felt like a long-awaited full circle. They first knew each other through school, going through years of pull and push before eventually finding their way to each other later in life. Their home church was also where they grew up, served God, and shared so many memories from their childhood and teenage years.
The afternoon started with bridal preparations and Chinese wedding traditions at home. Joei was already in tears when her parents combed her hair, and the emotions continued through the family moments, including her parents veiling her. There was something really touching about watching her family take in the significance of the day with her.
We then headed to All Saints Church for photos with the couple, bridal party and family. Being within the school compound where they first knew each other, and at the church where they had grown up and served God together, made the place especially meaningful for me as a photographer. The details throughout the day also reflected their story, from the carabiner and rope keychain customisation station for guests to the rock climbing touches and even an ice cream truck.
The bridal march-in was one of the moments I found hardest to keep my eyes behind the camera. Joei walked in with her dad, and when she and Bryan finally saw each other, both of them were already crying. After all those years of knowing each other and eventually finding their way to this day, watching them exchange their vows and rings felt incredibly meaningful.
The speeches brought plenty more tears, especially when they spoke about the people who had walked with them through the years.
Looking back, I think what touched me most was seeing how much of their history was woven into this wedding. The school where they first knew each other, the church where they grew up and served, the people who had loved them along the way, and finally the two of them standing at the altar together. It felt like watching many years of their story come together in one day.
