Joelle & Haaken

Bethel Presbyterian Church Wedding Photography Singapore

Every Praise

Joelle and Haaken first met through research, coming from different cultures and backgrounds. Yet watching them together, those differences never felt like the defining part of their story. Despite Haaken's unmistakably angmor face, hearing him speak fluent Singlish was so confusing and hilarious. It was a small reminder that love has a way of making people feel at home, no matter where they come from.

Their wedding at Bethel Presbyterian Church was one of the most heartfelt weddings I've photographed. Every detail seemed to carry intention. From displaying their parents' wedding photographs and grandparents' engagement portraits to booths where proceeds went towards a meaningful cause, everything pointed beyond themselves. It never felt like a wedding trying to impress. Instead, it felt like one that honoured God, served others, and remembered the people who came before them.

One thing I couldn't help but notice was how present they were with every single person. Haaken had relatives flying in from all over the world and every reason to be exhausted, yet throughout the day he and Joelle welcomed people with such sincerity and gratitude. You could genuinely feel how much every guest meant to them.

As a Christian myself, the worship service touched me deeply. From the choir before the ceremony began to Haaken playing the trombone as they walked in for the first time as husband and wife, everything reflected a desire to give glory to God rather than draw attention to themselves. That moment especially stayed with me. Instead of making the march-in about spectacle, he used his gift as an act of worship. For a brief moment, the whole church praising with their voice and dance felt like a glimpse of heaven.

Looking back, what stays with me most isn't just the beautiful details or the emotions, though there were many tears of joy throughout the day. It's the way this wedding reminded me what a Christ-centred marriage can look like, one where love for God naturally overflows into love for people. Being there wasn't just a privilege as a photographer, but an encouragement to my own faith as well.
